Per Se Dinner and Kitchen Tour: A SkyMiles Auction Breakdown

Delta SkyMiles Experiences is running three Per Se dinner auctions this month, all closing March 19. Each gets two guests a nine-course tasting menu, welcome champagne, a behind-the-scenes kitchen tour, and a signed Thomas Keller cookbook. Current bids range from 137,000 to 176,000 miles. At standard SkyMiles valuations, that is roughly $1,644-$2,112 - close to what you would pay in cash. So why is this interesting? Because the kitchen tour is not something you can book, and Per Se has 16 tables.

Kitchen tour for two Not sold separately
Signed copy of Under Pressure cookbook ~$62
Total (verifiable) ~$1,012

The hard floor is $1,012 - but the kitchen tour cannot be purchased at any price through normal channels. It is only offered through special packages and auctions like this one.

How we priced it

Dinner for two: $950. Per Se's Silver Gift Experience Card covers exactly this - champagne on arrival, the nine-course Chef's Tasting Menu for two, tax and service included. The tasting menu is $425/person. Wine beyond the welcome glass is extra. Most diners who skip the formal pairing ($425/person) order a bottle or two and land around $1,200-1,500 total for the evening.

Kitchen tour: not priced. Per Se's kitchen has four stations with a live video feed to The French Laundry in Yountville. The tour happens after dinner and is led by restaurant staff (not Chef Keller). It is only available through special packages and SkyMiles auctions - you will not find it on Per Se's website.

Signed cookbook: ~$62. Under Pressure: Cooking Sous Vide from Thomas Keller's official store. Nice keepsake, not a deal-mover.

The access angle

On pure math, this is roughly break-even. At 137,000-176,000 miles (1.2 cpp), you are spending $1,644-$2,112 for about $1,012 in hard retail value - that is 0.6-0.7 cpp, below the 1.2 standard.

But the dollar math does not capture what you are actually buying. The kitchen tour is not available through normal reservations at any price - Per Se's kitchen has four stations with a live video feed to The French Laundry in Yountville, and walking through it after a nine-course meal is something you cannot replicate by booking a regular table. On top of that, Per Se has 16 tables, reservations open two months ahead by phone at 10 AM, and they are gone almost immediately. The auction guarantees you a specific date with no phone roulette.

Things to know

Three auctions, three dates. April 23 (Wednesday), April 25 (Friday), and April 30 (Wednesday). The Friday is the most expensive at 176,000 miles.

Wine is extra. The package covers champagne and the tasting menu with tax and service. Additional wine, cocktails, or supplements are on you.

Fixed reservation. One date, 8:00 PM, no rescheduling. More than 15 minutes late and the table can be released with no miles refunded. Winners must confirm by March 23.

Bottom line

If you are running the miles-to-dollars math, this does not pencil out the way a loaded travel package does. You are below the 1.2 cpp standard on the verifiable components.

But this is an access play. A guaranteed table at one of the hardest reservations in New York, a kitchen tour you cannot book through normal channels, and a nine-course meal at a restaurant that has held three Michelin stars since 2006. If you have been trying to get into Per Se and keep striking out, the miles eliminate the hardest part. The April 30 date at 137,000 miles is the lowest of the three.
